What is Chromium?

Chromium is an essential trace mineral that has been found to help the body maintain and control blood sugar levels.  It was originally discovered in 1957 by researchers Walter Mertz and Kenneth Schwartz, when they isolated a compound from pork kidney which restored impaired glucose tolerance in rats. Chromium works closely with insulin to assist the uptake of glucose into cells.  Without chromium, insulin’s action is then blocked and blood sugar is elevated.  So chromium basically helps insulin do its job by controlling blood sugar.
