Cautions

  • Vitamin E may potentiate the effects of the blood thinning drug Coumadin® (warfarin) as well as enhance the antiplatelet effects of drugs like aspirin and Ticlid® (ticlopidine).
  • The drugs cholestyramine (Questran®), colestipol (Colestid®), phenytoin (Dilantin®), phenobarbital, orlistat (Xenical®), and mineral oil all interfere with the absorption and/or metabolism of vitamin E. Consult a health practitioner to see if extra vitamin E supplementation may be required.
  • Ferric iron supplements destroy vitamin E. People taking ferric iron should take vitamin E at a different time of day.
