Boron is a trace mineral that may be helpful in maintaining healthy bone and joint function.
Benefits of Boron
Boron has shown to be useful in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and arthritis. There’s no RDA for Boron, however many of the supplement manufacturers have suggested to take anywhere between 3mg to 9mg per day.
Sources of Boron
Fruits and vegetables typically contain significant amounts of boron, depending upon the levels of boron in soil where the food is grown. It is also available in a supplement form, either on its own or in a bone formula. Interestingly, those with a diet lacking in fruits and vegetables (the typical North American diet), also have a higher incidence of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. The recommended amount of servings of fruits and vegetables suggested by the Canada Food Guide is 8 – 10 servings for the average adult per day. It has been shown that only 1 in 5 Canadians get the recommended amount.
